What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? If you’re like most people, your first action might be to check Instagram. After all, with an average of 700 million daily active users, it’s one of the largest social media platforms in the world!
However, Instagram recently announced that there will be some changes to how the feed algorithm works, as well as a few other new features.
What does this mean for your account?
To answer that question, we need to take a look at how Instagram feeds work now and what will change in the future.
How it affects business accounts:
Instagram changing its algorithm will have a large impact on businesses and their organic reach. These changes will take effect early in 2022, and are expected to affect most users and brands alike. We have already seen some new features work their way into the app in the last few weeks, including a merged interface for video content, the ability to delete single slides in carousels, and all accounts can use story link (Not just 10k+ accounts).
Though there will be a lot of information released soon about how these changes will affect businesses’ engagement, here is what we currently know about the updates and features coming:
Chronological feeds are returning.
Users will be able to choose to prioritize certain accounts in their feed.
When will we see this update?
Instagram has said that their new algorithm is scheduled for a release in 2022. The app hasn’t revealed when exactly in 2022 it will go live, but it does give us some insight into what we can expect.
The content that will perform well on Instagram:
We predict there will be a shift to more highly branded content and a content quality increase. If you want your account to grow in 2022, you will need professional and relevant photography, as well as graphics that demonstrate your value.
Posting one photo per week will no longer be enough if you really want your account to thrive; on average, brands that posted three or more times per week grew three times faster than those that posted once a week.
